Pycnanthemum muticum
Pycnanthemum muticum
Perennial Plant Association 2025 Perennial Plant of the Year.
A vigorous, aromatic perennial known for its silvery bracts, pollinator-friendly flowers, and refreshing minty scent. In mid-to-late summer, it produces clusters of tiny, soft pink to lavender blooms nestled in showy, silvery-white bracts that give the plant a luminous, frosted appearance. Its broad, dark green leaves release a strong mint fragrance when brushed or crushed.
Reaching 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, Blunt Mountain Mint thrives in full sun to part shade and well-drained to moderately moist soils. It’s exceptionally attractive to bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects, making it a valuable addition to pollinator and native plant gardens. Deer-resistant and low-maintenance, it adds a beautiful, textural presence to borders, meadows, and naturalized plantings.
